rsenal brushed aside the challenge of Steve McClaren's FC Twente to secure a place in the lucrative group stages of the Champions League with a 4-0 victory at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners - who were already leading 2-0 from the first leg in Holland - impressed from kick-off and it was no surprise when they went ahead through French midfielder Samir Nasri after 27 minutes.Captain William Gallas added another at the start of the second half, before England hopeful Theo Walcott got the goal his all-action display merited and Nicklas Bendtner tapped in late on to make it a miserable return home for former national-team head coach McClaren, who must now make do with the UEFA Cup.For Arsenal, though, an estimated 25million jackpot awaits following qualification to Europe's elite club competition for an 11th straight campaign.More sterner tests will, you suspect, lie ahead between now and the chance of a glory night in Rome come May - but at least Arsene Wenger can sleep a little easier with mission accomplished and the campaign back on course.
Given there was so much at stake to make it safely into tomorrow's draw, Wenger had warned against any complacency in their lead or lack of focus - and demanded a response following defeat at Fulham on Saturday. It certainly was a controlled start by the hosts, who forced the first corner after five minutes following a brave run by Walcott down the right.
The delivery from Robin van Persie flew across the six-yard box, but no-one was able to get a touch.Denilson gave the ball away carelessly on the edge of the Arsenal penalty, but was fortunate Theo Janssen drove his low shot wide.Twente defender Cheick Tiote fouled Bendtner 20 yards out, conceding a free-kick in a dangerous, central position.
Van Persie struck it well, but his effort was too straight and Nicolay Mihaylov collected comfortably.Arsenal continued to dominate and it seemed only a matter of time before their aggregate lead was extended to wrap up the tie.
Nasri did well to stay on his feet and nip in down the left before cutting the ball back into the path of van Persie - only for the Dutchman to blaze his effort high over the crossbar. The goal eventually came after 27 minutes.Walcott broke down the right once more, and pulled the ball back to the far side of the box where van Persie stretched to prod it into the path of Nasri.
The 12million Frenchman weaved past his marker before sending in a low shot, which took a slight defection as it rolled into the net.It was no more than the hosts deserved, with McClaren's men having been pressed onto the back foot from kick-off as the Gunners marched towards the Champions League proper again.Arsenal now looked back to their free-flowing best - and Denilson should have added a second when another slick passing move released the Brazilian into the right side of the Twente box, but his low shot was blocked by the legs of Mihaylov. The Gunners contrived to miss a string of further golden opportunities before the break - van Persie somehow curling a sitter wide from 10 yards after Walcott had again broken down the right.
Nasri - who missed the first leg a fortnight ago because of injury - was given a rest at the restart, replaced by Emmanuel Eboue. The hosts continued their aggressive approach and doubled their advantage after 52 minutes. The ball dropped to Bendtner on the left side of the penalty area and he cut inside before firing in a low shot, which the Twente keeper could only push back into the path of captain Gallas - who slotted home from close range, just as he had done in the first leg. With the contest now over, it just seemed a matter of how many Arsenal would score to further embarrass the former England boss, who had entered this tie hoping to prove a point or two.To their credit, Twente - playing with three frontmen - continued to push forward, but that left them vulnerable on the break. Wenger made more changes as the match entered the final 25 minutes with Togo frontman Emmanuel Adebayor replacing van Persie.
It was 3-0 soon after when Walcott scampered clear and produced a cool finish into the bottom right corner to get the goal his performance merited.
With the job now done there was no point in taking any risks and so Cesc Fabregas - in his first appearance of the season after a hamstring injury - came off for Alex Song - the Cameroon manjust back from the Olympics.Bendtner added a tap-in with a minute left, but for McClaren, the final whistle could not come soon enough.TeaArsenal Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Djourou, Clichy, Walcott,Fabregas (Song Billong 68), Denilson, Nasri (Eboue 46),Van Persie (Adebayor65), Bendtner.Subs Not Used: Fabianski, Toure, Vela, Ramsey.

In the 53rd minute, Jamie Sheldon's deep cross was brilliantly taken by Semih Aydilek and he showed dainty juggling skills to manoeuvre the ball from two defenders into the path of an on-rushing O'Connor.Poole, who made a number of good saves, kept out a fierce drive from Sheldon at the near post before O'Connor smashed in his hat-trick goal and Blues fourth after Aydilek, unselfishly teed-up by Jerome, had what looked a routine score scrambled off the line (75).In the 79th minute Jerome found the bottom corner with a crisp sidefoot once Aydilek had pulled the ball back to him.Jerome should have made it six but an attempted lob over an isolated Poole had too much on it and went over the crossbar.Burton, who rested a number of regulars, were spirited but found it tough to seriously threaten a Blues defence that had Franck Queudrue and Rafael Schmitz as centre-halves.Blues: Doyle, Parnaby, Joyce, Queudrue (Rutter 65), Schmitz, de Ridder (Sheldon 44), Sammons, Mutch, O'Connor (Jervis 76), Jerome, Aydilek. Not used: Lyness, O'Brien.GARRY O'Connor helped himself to a hat-trick as Blues lifted the Birmingham Senior Cup at St Andrew's last night.
Stuart Parnaby and Cameron Jerome got the others against a Burton side that included manager Nigel Clough, aged 42, and ex-Blues and Villa goalkeeper Kevin Poole, 44.
The Brewers were unhappy at having to play the final 24 hours before tonight's Blue Square Conference match against Altrincham, hence the golden oldies appearance.
And they left the field immediately and didn't wait for their medals at the presentation ceremony in a pointed gesture.O'Connor notched the opener in the 14th minute when he ghosted onto Jordon Mutch's cross to glance the ball beyond Poole.Four minutes later Jerome's persistence in chasing down a defender paid off when he won possession, backheeled to Daniel de Ridder who in turn set up Parnaby for a precise sidefoot finish.Stuart Parnaby 2010

Dan Savage was born to William and Judy Savage in Chicago, Illinois.[6] He is of Irish ancestry.[7] The third of four children,[6] Savage was raised as a Roman Catholic and attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary North, which he has described as "a Catholic high school in Chicago for boys thinking of becoming priests."[8] Though Savage has stated that he is now "a wishy-washy agnostic" and an atheist,[9] he has said that he still considers himself "culturally Catholic."[8][10]Savage attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied theater and history.[6] As a theater director, Savage (working under the name "Keenan Hollahan") was a founder of Seattle's Greek Active Theater.[10] Much of the group's work has been queer recontextualizations of classic works, such as a tragicomic Macbeth with both the title character and Lady Macbeth played by performers of the opposite sex. In March 2001, he directed his own Egguus at Consolidated Works, a parody of Peter Shaffer's 1973 play Equus which exchanged a fixation on horses for a fixation on chickens. Savage has not directed, produced, or performed in any productions since a 2003 production of "Letters from the Earth", also at Consolidated Works, his trimmed version of Mark Twain's "The Diary of Adam and Eve", which received scathing reviews, including one from his own paper, "My Boss's Show Stinks".[11]File:Dan SavageFile:Dan Savage

Chelsea continued their dominant run in the League brushing aside Blackpool 4-0. Salomon Kalou tapped home from a corner in the 2nd minute followed by Florent Malouda’s strike from close range in the 12th to make it 2-0 for the Blues. Didier Drogba’s deflected strike made it 3-0 in the 30th before Malouda struck again in the 42nd for Chelsea’s fourth. The Blues could not continue with their rout in the second half thanks to some dogged Blackpool defense and missed chances in which Malouda spurned two opportunities to complete a hat-trick.In a rain-soaked DW stadium Manchester City got the better of Wigan Athletic 2-0 with Carlos Tevez providing the opener in the 43rd when from a long Joe Hart punt he clipped the ball over Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi.Tevez then took advantage of poor defending with a cross from the right for Yaya Toure who fired in the second in the 70th. Wigan created few chances but went close in the last 10 minutes when Mohamed Diame headed wide but could not prevent the Eastlandersfrom registering an easy win.Watch Arsenal vs Tottenham Live OnlineMatch date:31 October, 2009 – Kick Off : 12:45 UK TimeStadium: Emirates stadium ; Location: London, EnglandWatch Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal 31 October 2009 Livestream Highlights here. The Premier League will see the clash of titans Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs on October 31, 2009. The game between Arsenal and the Tottenham Hotspur will drive the spectators in the Emirates Stadium crazy. The Arsenal and Hotspurs are occupying the third and the fourth places, respectively on the league table and this one will be a cracker of game, as the two teams will put their blood and sweat to emerge as better of others.
Team Arsenal played against Liverpool in the previous match, which they won with a lead of 2-1. And so far they have played nine games out of which they have won 6, lost 2 and drawn 1 game gaining 19 points on the whole.Whereas, the Tottenham Hotspur have played 10 games and won 6, lost 3 and drawn 1 game with 19 points, which is very similar to the statistics of the Arsenal team. The Hotspurs has had their previous encounter with Everton and they won convincingly with a lead of 2-0. The Hotspurs and Arsenal are definitely riding high on confidence and betting on one team is a dicey decision. And as a lover of the game one could only say, let the better team win!
Fabregas is tempted by Barcelona, but not everyone is recommending the team to him. If Wenger isn’t willing to let the player go so easily, French press announces that he is asking for an amount... Read more...

Whack: Kaka is bundled off the ball by Flamini in the first leg at the Emirates
"It's never the same player who makes two consecutive fouls against him in the same game ? it's always alternated between one opponent and one of his team-mates. It's exactly as if there is a strategy behind it ? as if you can see the preparation. That's why the referees fail to spot enough of them."Kaka missed Milan's last two matches because of a knee injury but will return tomorrow against an Arsenal side who flew out from London today with Robin van Persie expected to be back in the Gunners squad.
AC Milan striker Kaka has pleaded for more protection from referees ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash with Arsenal.
The world and European footballer of the year has voiced his fear that he may suffer the same terrible injury inflicted on Eduardo last week after he sustained a broken leg following a red-card challenge from Birmingham's Martin TaylorScroll down for more
The striker added: "They do have a young side but it would be a mistake to call Arsenal inexperienced. Some of these players were playing in the Champions League Final not a long time ago."We are not in a comfortable situation because we didn't score in the first leg and conceding at the San Siro would be very dangerous for us."But I trust in our team because we are used to these kinds of difficult situations and normally we rise to the occasion. What I do find strange, though, is seeing Gilberto out of the squad, not only because he's got a place in the Brazilian team but also because he was one of Arsenal's key players last season.
"They must be very strong if they can afford to leave Gilberto o
The winner of last year’s Golden Ball (the European Footballer of the Year award), the Brazilian Kaka said to Gazzetta dello Sport that his favorite for the winning of the Golden Ball awarded by the France Football magazine is Inter Milano player Zlatan Ibrahimovici, but admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo will win it. “Ibrahimovic is a decisive player with outstanding qualities, but I think the Golden Ball will be awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo. He deserves it after what he achieved this year” said Kaka.
